As a formally trained scientist, I have a great deal of experience in data analysis. Here I present a detailed graduate thesis which included field data collection and intense GIS Analysis on the distribution and topoclimate of rock glacier deposits in the Tobacco Root Mountains, Montana. Digital Elevation Models
In this photo collage, the digital elevation model (bottom) is shown adjacent to the aerial photograph of a research site. The images include outlines of the deposits and GPS data pertaining to the sites of examination.
Principle Components Analysis
This is showing the results of a principle components analysis that examined 12 different variables related to relative age dating. The variables were put into matrix form and processed into three principle components that best described the variation in the dataset. The groups circled in this diagram represent different time periods of periglacial activity.
Tobacco Root Range
This photo is an overview of the Tobacco Root Mountains in Montana, showing the locations of every rock glacier deposit in the range. The transparent color ramp applied is the DEM, showing that rock glaciers only develop at high elevations in this range.
Solar Radiation Models
Using Digital Elevation Models in conjunction with slope and aspect data, four solar radiation models were generated for each area examined to see how solar insolation varied with season. The results were used to determine the topoclimatic niches most likely to originate these sorts of deposits.

Topographic Hiking Maps
Hiking and cartography are two of my deepest passions. What better way to enjoy both than to make topographic hiking maps. I have worked with the Hoosier Hikers Council to create two fully-detailed maps of backpacking trails in Indiana. These maps included GPS reconnaissance data collection and QGIS design.
